National Zinfandel Day Celebration, November 17th - November 19th!
Join us for our first annual celebration of National Zinfandel Day, November 17th - 19th!
Zinfandel Advocates and Producers (ZAP), has declared November 18th as National Zinfandel Day, both to celebrate the many styles of Zinfandel produced across America, and to raise awareness of Old Vine Zinfandel vineyards. Zinfandel continues to play an essential role in our winery, and we are excited to announce our first annual celebration of National Zinfandel Day!
Zinfandel remains once of the most important heritage varieties in American wine history. We are blessed to have access to two of these amazing vineyards. Both the the Mohr-Fry Ranch Home Vineyard (76 years old) and Marian's Vineyard (116 years old) are farmed by the Mohr-Fry family, with an intense dedication to quality, and preservation of these heritage vineyards.
Unfortunately many heritage vineyards are destroyed each year. In the face of increasing threats to these ancient vineyards we are working to raise awareness of the few remaining old vineyards, and help preserve our rich heritage. Read here about the looming destruction of these ancient vineyards.
We will feature a vertical tasting of both our Mohr-Fry Zinfandel, and our famous Marian's Vineyard Zinfandel. Join us to taste these wonderful wines, and learn how you can help preserve Lodi's Old Vine Zinfandel.

Lodi Tour of Tempranillo, November 10th - November 12th!
Join us, along with thirteen Lodi wineries to celebrate International Tempranillo Day, November 10th through November 12th, and explore the many interesting styles of Tempranillo.

We will also feature a barrel tasting of our 2016 Tempranillo, and a few of our favorite past vintages including a 2007 Tempranillo!

2015 Harvest & Crush
Harvest & Crush 2015
Early and light! 2015 was the earliest harvest in my memory. We started with our Verdelho on August 12th, and then Tempranillo on August 20th - a whole month earlier than last year. Our old vine Zins started on August 28th and we finished picking them by September 15th, the usual starting point. Many ask if the early harvest was due to the drought, but in our experience it was the warm spring coupled with low yields that allowed the grapes to ripen up early. The vines whole growth cycle was essentially moved up a month. It’s also interesting to note that we essentially dry-farmed our vineyards in Amador County this year. We gave some of our vines a little water after the September heat spells, but many things had already been picked.
And the most important point, the quality of the young wines looks to be outstanding. We saw some of the darkest and most aromatic wines from this year’s harvest. That may be drought related, and could be yield related as well, but that’s part of the mystery. Unfortunately, for us as farmers the yields were pretty low this year. We had some blocks that came in about 1/3 of last year, and others hovered around 50% of normal. Fortunately, the Zins were up a bit after 2014’s dismal yields. But that is farming, and that is winemaking, and that is what makes it fun and interesting.
